Glasgow's Learning and the Big Plus

Glasgow's Learning and the Big Plus

The Big Plus is the national campaign launched in 2004 to encourage adults in Scotland who need help with reading, writing and numbers to access local support.

Glasgow's Adult Literacy and Numeracy Initiative links with the national Big Plus campaign, under the banner of Glasgow's Learning, to help promote the key messages of the Big Plus at a local level.

Funded by Skills Development Scotland, the Big Plus campaign originated at the request of adult literacy and numeracy partnerships in local authority areas who were finding it difficult to attract new learners.

The campaign includes national TV and radio adverts, posters and a range of promotional materials which are available free of charge to help providers promote the service to adult learners across Scotland.  The name and logo for the campaign were developed after close consultation with literacy and numeracy tutors and learners throughout Scotland. The scenarios in the latest TV and radio advertisments are based on real-life examples from this consultation process.
