Adult Literacies Link Project (ALLP) - City of Glasgow College 

 ALLP Development Worker: Colin Scullion

  • currently visits HMP Barlinnie, HMP/YOI Cornton Vale, HMYOI Polmont, HMP Greenock and HMP Low Moss.
  • provides professional, specialist support and guidance to prisoners pre- and post-release, as well as transitional literacy tuition if required, to facilitate pathway into literacies learning within the communities to which they are returning
  • transition support post-release involves accompanying individuals to visit local learning programmes to speak to tutors and learners there, to find out how the flexible, individually-tailored support can benefit them
  • learning destinations include literacies projects funded through Glasgow's Learning, Glasgow Life's community learning programmes, and FE First Steps courses, among others
  • project can act as a springboard into employment, college or training. Individuals also report positive impacts on their family and personal lives with family members on occasion also starting to engage in literacies learning.
