Family Literacies Learning

UPF3415Welcome to the Family Literacies section of Glasgow's Learning website!

This section of our website aims to highlight the great family literacies work being delivered in the city and inspire new work by sharing information and giving you access to useful resources and other links.

An important aspect of adult literacy and numeracy in Glasgow is working with parents and carers to develop their literacy and numeracy skills so that they can support their children's learning and to benefit family life. This work is an investment in the city's future, contributing towards equality of opportunity by changing learning patterns within families.

Family literacies programmes in the city are delivered in a range of ways that reflect the needs and circumstances of the families involved:

  • Working with parents or carers on their own
  • Working with parents or carers and children together
  • Working with parents or carers and children - some elements alone, some together on a common or linked theme.

Learning providers and other organisations are continuing to work together to support families in their literacies development. If you have a look at the Case Studies (link below) in this section, you will see that partnership working is a key aspect of family literacies. We also see how successfully learning takes place in the tutored session, at home and out and about in the city.
