Aye Write! 2012

ayeWRITE BLACK

Once again, this year's Glasgow's Learning events at Aye Write! were a huge success! The three events (Creative Writing, ESOL and ALN) continued the theme of ‘I belong to Glasgow, Glasgow belongs to me' and were attended by over 400 people in total.

The Creative Writing event included performances from community creative writing groups from across the city including Ibrox Writers, St Mungo's Creative Writers Group, Possil Park, Pollok Carers Group, Pathways to Progress, RNIB, Birgidale Creative Writers, Govan Carers and Springburn Creative Writers Group.

ESOL learners took us all over the world as they described the differences and similarities between Glasgow and other cities. There was lots of fun for all the family, including play, face painting and activities with the Open Museum.

DSC7077Drawing the week to a conclusion was the launch of the publication ‘I belong to Glasgow and Glasgow belongs to me' at the literacies learners' event. The learner publication group showed a short film about their experiences of creating a publication of the work submitted for last year's Aye Write! and everyone was given a free copy of the book to take home. If you would like an electronic copy, please click here: Aye Write Learner Publication 2012.

Over 40 learners from 15 different organisations took to the stage to read out this year's poems, short stories and plays and we were even treated to a couple of fantastic songs! The atmosphere was amazing as learners movingly celebrated their achievements.

We hope to be able to display learners' work from all 3 events in local libraries across the city - watch this space for locations and display dates!

Learners' work from across the three events is available to view here; if your (or your learner's) work does not appear and you would like it displayed, please contact Lorna Campbell.
