For Learners

James McLean — 16 Apr 2007

James 5

I'm a retired hospital porter (65), and as a result have spare time.  I always wanted to improve my reading and letter writing and when I saw an advert about the Courtyard at the local Health Centre, decided to take up the challenge.

I came to the Courtyard in April 2006, as I wanted to improve my quality and expression in letter writing.

Later on in the year my Tutor (Jack Savage) involved me in the North West Writers' Group which comprised of writing school stories for a book which was being published in conjunction with Anniesland College and associates to be ready for the Aye Write! book festival, being held at the Mitchell Library, 16th to 25th February, 2007.

The North West Writers' Group was allocated the Tuesday night (20th) between 6 and 8 p.m. and later on during the evening, a few of the learners were introduced by Ian Kelly to the audience and I had the privilege of reciting my stories.

As a result of the experience of doing the project and the help Jack has given me, I've been able to put more into my writing.
