Amanda's Story — 11 Sep 2009
Amanda* worked as an auxiliary in a hospital. She contacted the Glasgow City Council and was referred onto Culture and Sport Glasgow's literacies base in the North of Glasgow. She received a package of group and individual learning twice a week to develop her reading, writing and confidence so she could fulfil her ambition to get an administrative job in an office.
Since attending provision her confidence has improved, she gained her SQA in Intermediate 1 Communications and linked into a local college. She began working on her Intermediate 2 qualification, but had to take timeout due to health problems.
She has recently returned to learning and with the support of her Community Learning tutor she has undertaken a bookkeeping course at the local college. She now has the confidence and skills to attain a formal bookkeeping qualification which will help her achieve her goal of working in an office.
