Adult literacy and numeracy learning programmes in Glasgow are funded by a range of sources.
In 2001, the Adult Literacy and Numeracy in Scotland (ALNIS) report was published by the Scottish Executive outlining the challenges, solutions and recommendations in developing adult literacy and numeracy (ALN) work.
New funding totalling £65 million between 2001 and 2008 was committed to develop services for adult learners across Scotland. In Glasgow, these additional Scottish Executive funds are routed through the Glasgow Community Learning Strategy Partnership (GCLSP). The GCLSP set up an ALN Sub group to drive forward this work in Glasgow.
This additional funding for Glasgow is currently £2.13m for 2006-07 and £2.146m for 2007-08. The Glasgow Adult Literacy and Numeracy Strategic Plan 2006-08 sets out the work to be developed with this funding including types of learning programmes and targets.
ALN funding and activities are monitored and reported on annually to the Scottish Executive, Glasgow City Council, FE colleges, voluntary sector organisations and Greater Glasgow NHS Board are using this additional funding, along with other funding, to build on and develop ALN learning programmes and services for adults across Glasgow.
