Tutors' Stories

Margaret Elliot — 18 Apr 2007

My name is Margaret Elliot. I completed my ITALL in 2001 and volunteered as a tutor for sessional work. I was supported by my trainers and development worker and the transition into non-formal education was exciting, challenging and worthwhile. This experience permitted me to realise that we are all learners and thinking on your feet as well as preparing learning materials was not just the job of a tutor but involved the learner.

I enjoyed my work and the more I worked, the confident I got.  I ended up working full time in an organisation and developed the project. After this, I managed a literacy project of which I thoroughly enjoyed and was nominated for, and recently won, an award for ‘innovative methods'.  This award gave me more confidence that I was on the right path and I currently work as a literacy tutor for the BULB project within the Blue Triangle Housing Association.
