Free learning and development sessions for ALN tutors during November — 24 Oct 2007
Two free learning and development sessions for literacies tutors and development workers are being hosted by the Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS) during November.
A learning and development session on using The Curriculum Wheel is being hosted by GCVS on Monday 12 November at GO Business and Training Centre, George House, 36 North Hanover Steet, Glasgow.
All literacies tutors and development workers should by now have received a copy of the new interactive CD-Rom version of the Curriculum Wheel that has been developed to support the delivery of the ALN Curriculum Framework for Scotland. The wheel is a visual tool to help learners and tutors plan what they are going to learn, and to look back on the learning that has taken place. This learning and development will help participants to use the wheel to its full advantage.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: find their way around the wheel CD rom; use the wheel as an aid to planning and reviewing learning; be aware of the range of potential other uses of the wheel; identify some ways in which they intend to use the wheel in their work context.
Meanwhile, a Dyslexia Awareness learning and development session for people working in adult literacies will take place on Wednesday 28 November, 10am-3pm at St Mungoes Museum, 2 Castle Street, Glasgow.
The session will give a basic introduction to:
- Historical and current thinking about dyslexia
- Screening and assessment for dyslexia in adults
- Anti-discrimination legislation addecting adults with dyslexia
- Strategies to support adults in a learning setting
Both events are free of charge but pre-booking is essential. To reserve your place on either course, download a booking form from the Glasgow's Learning website and return to Stacey Anderson, Training Administrator, GCVS, 11 Queens Crescent, Glasgow G4 9AS or contact Stacey on Stacey.Anderson@gcvs.org.uk or tel: 0141 332 2444.
